PARSONS, Kan. - The Independence Volleyball team were unable to get off on the right foot to begin conference play as they fell in four sets to Labette Wednesday evening.
Labette got out to a quick start taking both of the first two sets on their home floor 17-25 and 18-25, keeping the Pirates at bay for the majority of both sets.
Independence was able to break through in the third set as they rallied to win 25-23 forcing a fourth set.
Labette was able to kill the Pirates comeback bid there as they pulled away 25-13 in the fourth and final set.
Alyssa Trane and Kat Balog led the way offensively again, as Trane had 12 kills and Balog had seven, while Serrena Hernandez dished out 11 assists in the loss.
The Pirates now shift their focus to another four-match weekend as they will head to the Coffeyville Tournament just down the road. They will play two matches Friday night at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, before finishing up the weekend Saturday morning with matches at 9:00 am and 11:00 am. The loss moves the Pirates record to 3-7 on the season, and pushes their KJCCC record to 0-1.
