PRATT, Kan. - The Independence Softball team dropped a pair of road games to Pratt on Thursday, falling in game one 5-0 and 7-6 in game two.
In game one, it was offensive struggles and one rough inning that was the downfall for Indy as both teams mustered seven hits in the game, the Beavers were just able to get the big hit when they needed it as they scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Brooklin Phillips got her second consecutive start in the circle, and was cruising until the tough fifth inning where she had to be relieved by Londyn Dempster.
Offensively, Madyson Paxton and Londyn Dempster each had two hits in the loss.
In game two, The Pirates offense came to life in the late innings once again, as they rallied for five runs in the fifth innings to tie the game up at six. Unlike the prior doubleheader, the Pirates found themselves on the wrong side of a late rally this time around, as the Beavers were able to scratch across a run in the bottom of the sixth and hold the Pirates in the seventh to complete the two game sweep.
Athena Broaddus, despite taking the loss in the circle, was two for four offensively and drove in three runs, as Rebekah LaMarch and Londyn Dempster each had multi-hit games as well. Kylie Dennison hit a solo home run, her first of the year, in the loss.
The Pirates now gear up for a nice stretch of home games that will begin Tuesday, March 3rd when they host the Oklahoma Wesleyan JV team for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm.
