INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - Three more Independence Community College Basketball players have found their next home, as Xavier Miller, Giali Chapman and Zion Dixon have all committed to continue their academic and basketball careers at the NCAA Division II level after successful seasons with the Pirates.
Miller, a 6’3 guard out of Dallas, Texas will be taking his talents to Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. Miller appeared in all but one of the Pirates 31 games this season, and started six games as he averaged 6.4 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per game. Miller also made his mark on the defensive end as he averaged a steal per game. The Bishop State transfer had his best game of the year in a home victory over Coffeyville as he finished with 16 points on an efficient 6 of 7 from the field, on his way to finishing in double figures seven times for the Pirates.
Lincoln University competes in the CIAA Conference and is looking to bounce back from a 10-20 season, where they lost in the second round to Virginia State University in the second round of the conference tournament.
Chapman, was a key piece for the Pirates down the stretch of the season as he missed the first half of the season recovering from an ankle injury. The 6’4 Las Vegas native will head to Texas A&M International after averaging 6.4 points, two rebounds and one assist per game in the 14 contests he appeared in. Chapman found his stride at the end of the year as he notched back to back high scoring performances as he finished with 19 points in a loss to Cowley and then bested that total the next game with 22 points in a loss to Dodge City. Chapman also was a menace on the defensive end as he finished his season with a five steal performance in the playoff game against Fort Hays Tech Northwest.
Texas A&M International in Laredo, Texas, competes in the Lone Star Conference and is coming off of an 8-20 season.
Dixon, the Catawba Valley transfer, appeared in the final 30 games of the year for the Pirates and will now take his talents to Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina. The 6’0 Point Guard out of Winston-Salem averaged 5.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Dixon started the year strong, with back to back 12 point performances in a weekend in Kansas City and later hit his season high of 19 points in a road loss to Garden City.
Southern Wesleyan competes in the Conference Carolinas and is coming off of a 14-15 season, where they lost to Chowan University in the second round of the conference tournament.
