Assistant men’s basketball coach Eric Colbert is entering his first season with Independence Community College. Coach Colbert arrives at Indy after spending two seasons at Angelina College (TX), where he was apart of a team that made it to the Region 14 semifinals. Prior to his time at Anglina College, Coach Colbert was an assistant in the Jayhawk conference at Pratt Community College, where he was part of two 20-plus win seasons, finished first in the Jayhawk West Conference, and a berth in the semifinals of the Region 6 tournament.
Prior to Pratt Community College, Coach Colbert was the head assistant at Navarro College from 2008-2014. During Coach Colbert’s six seasons on the staff at Navarro, the Bulldogs won three Region XIV championships and one conference championship. In six seasons, the Bulldogs were 147-58 (.717 winning percentage), graduating 93 of their sophomores while placing nearly 30 student/athletes in Division 1 basketball.
Coach Colbert also was on the staff at the University of Nebraska from 2006-2008 as Director of Player Development for head coach Kenneth “Doc” Sadler. There, Coach Colbert was part of two 20-win seasons and a post-season run in the NIT tournament.
Coach Colbert is originally from Compton, California and prepped at Verbum Dei High School, where he was member of a CIF championship basketball team. After high school coach, Colbert played junior college basketball at Compton College and Division II powerhouse Humboldt State University, where he played for the legendary Tom Wood.
Coach Colbert is the son of Chester and Lee Etta Colbert and has one son, Brayden Sidney Colbert.
