Matthew Finnin is entering his 1st season as Offensive Coordinator for the Pirates. Prior to arriving at Independence, Finnin was the offensive coordinator at Northland Community and Technical College (2018). During his one season at Northland, the Pioneers earned an 8-3 record, winning the Region XIII championship and opportunity to compete in the Red Grange Bowl game.
Coach Finnin was awarded the GridIronRR.com NJCAA Offensive Coordinator Of The Year Award for a successful offensive attack that averaged 36.7 points per game (10th in the nation) and 432.7 yards per game (7th in the nation). His offense also boasted a top ten national ranking in passing yards (2nd), completion percentage (7th), passing yards per game (3rd), passing yards per attempt (3rd), and passing touchdowns (1st). Despite the aggressive attack, Finnin’s offense maintained a 36:2 TD to interception ratio. The successful offensive campaign was highlighted by two All – Americans at QB and TE. Prior to coaching at Northland, Finnin coached Running Backs at Dodge City Community College (2017).
As a player, Coach Finnin was Scout.com’s #1 overall Junior College prospect in 2013. After an All – American campaign, Finnin received 35 scholarship offers, and selected the University of Nebraska over a list of schools that included Ohio State, Florida State, and Oklahoma. Finnin was 3 year letter winner at Nebraska (2013 – 2015), earning his B.A. of History. Coach Finnin is the son of Gary Finnin and Cathy Norton.
